Dr. Dori was a pleasure to work with. My partner and I went for some help and she let us talk it out and work through some exercises. I really enjoyed the experience but it's not sustainable for us. My only "but" in using Dr. Dori again is that I find her fees to be exorbitant - $565 for a 1-1.5 hour session. I just find that to be an obscene amount of money. I knew within the first few minutes of our first couple’s retreat that we had made the right decision to see Dori. She was warm and welcoming, and her consistent calming presence created the perfect environment for us both to feel safe where we could let down our guard and be totally open, honest and our true authentic self.

The benefits from leaving our home environment and spending extended periods of time together were undeniable. In regular hour-long therapy sessions we would barely scratch the surface and in some cases we would have the time to “open Pandora’s box” but then no time to work through the issue(s) and come to a resolution or mutual understanding. Which often set up us up to fail as we walked out the door. However, with Dori, we were able to go into much more detail and really get to the bottom of the root causes, and learn more about each other and ourselves. Ultimately leaving with more understanding and compassion, for each other and us.

I would definitely recommend other couples to go on a retreat with Dori. She has the perfect balance when it comes to empathy and accountability. Dori’s approach meant that conversations never got out of control, if conversations ever started to escalate she would immediately shut it down and provide us with the guidance and tools to communicate more responsibly and effectively .Dr Dori hit the mark, it was great!

Throughout our retreat, I received a great deal of understanding of myself personally and how I am within my relationship. I was able to let go of some internal anger & resentment and was also given healthy tools to communicate better with my spouse.

The retreat experience allows the relationship to get much deeper in understanding, being in a safe environment without interruptions. Getting away from our day-to-day lives, helped us to focus solely on the task at hand, the relationship.

I reached out to Deborah over a year ago. I was at an all-time low in both my personal and professional life. I was dealing with deep-seated conflicts with toxic personalities. Dori worked with me and my business partner of 31 years to help us sort out dissolving the business, who was also a friend of 39 years. My partner wanted to leave the business, and we were fighting about how to split, while still maintaining our friendship. We started working with Dr. Dori Gatter because of the stress of our dual roles as co-founder and as couple. Although it has certain benefits to start a company with your partner, the distinct challenges are going beyond normal co-founder issues. Being a couple and starting your own company means that you spend almost 24h together and that you never really leave work. The major problem with this, we, as a couple faced is that we stopped spending personal time together and just worked. Also, the stress increased as we entered into the next phase of our startup. As a result, our relationship deteriorated and we were not ideal co-founders and business partners any longer. We were on the brink of ending the private relationship and continue just as co-founders and not sure how that would have worked out for the life of the company. This was when we started to work with Dori. We both enjoy working with her because of her talent to bring our unique personalities and work-related roles together without any of us having “to give in”. My co-founder and are very different types of people and deal with stress in opposite and sometimes opposing ways. With Dori’s help, we learned to understand each other but more importantly we learned to understand ourselves. Dori taught us how to listen to our needs and how to express them. Based on really effective exercises Dori gave us, communication at work and at home vastly improved. The stress from running a startup is still present but we can deal with this much better now and as a team. What I value the most in the work with Dori is that she is able to relate to me on an emotional level, the way I understand best, and immediately switch to the more intellectual way to address my partner, which works for him best. She then creates a common language for the two of us where we can talk, listen and be understood. I am sure that without working with Dori our relationship and our business wouldn’t exist in this way.
